Make-A-Wish Gala a HUGE Success

A few weeks ago, we blogged about the Make A Wish 25th anniversary gala that MTR would be attending. The gala was a HUGE success! Over $840,000 was raised and there were over 860 guests from all across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana!

MTR donated part of the “Be the Ultimate OSU Fan” package for the live auction. The package contained 8 premier seats on the 50 year line at Ohio Stadium for the Minnesota game, pre-game sideline passes, and a photo with Jim Tressel. It also includes a private dinner with Jim Tressel and his wife Ellen at M, a prestigious restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. This auction package went for $20,000! This is equivalent to 3 Wishes.

If you wish to donate to Make-A-Wish or hear more about the big 25th anniversary gala, please visit their website.

MTR to Attend 25th Anniversary Make-A-Wish Gala

This year, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana is celebrating its 25th Anniversary! In honor of this great achievement, they will be holding a gala on May 9th, 2009, on the 50 yard line in Ohio Stadium. MTR will be in attendance at this event. There will be a gourmet dinner, a silent auction, and a performance by the Rascal Flatts. For the silent auction, MTR will be donating 4 Ohio State football tickets for a game during the 2009 season.

In honor of their 25th Anniversary, Make-A-Wish is asking for donations of airline miles. They are aiming to collect 25 million airline miles to fulfill the wishes of children who wish to visit other places all over the world.

MTR Exhibits at 2009 6th Annual MHA Business Summit

MTR attended the Annual Managed Health Care Associates (MHA) Business Summit in Las Vegas, NV on March 19th and 20th. This conference was primarily for closed long term pharmacies. There were attendees from all over the contiguous 48 states from many different pharmacies. MTR presented pole-mounted IV pumps and ambulatory IV pumps that are widely utilized in the long term care arena. We believe the conference was very successful and we enjoyed meeting plenty of new people as well as having the opportunity to visit with our existing customers.

We would like to thank all the MHA staff for all their help in making this conference a success. We look forward to hearing from all the attendees that we met!

MTR Exhibits at 2009 National Home Infusion (NHIA) Conference

MTR attended the National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) Conference this year in Baltimore, Maryland from March 1st to the 5th. However, it didn’t start off on a good foot for us. Our booth display was misplaced so we were unable to exhibit on the opening night. Fortunately, our booth arrived bright and early Monday morning and we were able to get it up for the second day of exhibiting. We had a great location at the end of the aisle close to the NHIA information center. We made numerous first introductions to home infusion companies from across the United States and Puerto Rico. MTR looks forward to the opportunity to provide our first rate service to these home infusion companies!  At our booth, we showcased a variety of ambulatory and pole-mounted infusion pumps that we provide.  We were able to generate a lot of traffic to our booth because we were a participant in the NHIA Bingo game. We donated a $100 gift card to Southwest Airlines, which was great for everyone who was thinking about planning their summer vacations!

A special thanks to the NHIA staff for all their help, especially with helping us track our lost booth! MTR definitely looks forward to exhibiting at the 2010 NHIA Conference in Dallas. We would also like to thank all the NHIA attendees that stopped by our booth to chat with us and we look forward to hearing from you!

MTR Grants Wishes of Two Make A Wish Children

As you can gather from our blog, MTR is philanthropically involved with the Make-A- Wish Foundation® of Greater Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, Central Ohio Region. Recently, we granted the wishes of two children – Tyler and David.

Tyler is a 16-year-old boy diagnosed with lymphoma. Tyler fits right in with MTR because he loves The Ohio State University Buckeyes. His wish was for a brand new set of electronics. For his wish, he received a 50” plasma screen television, two 26” LCD televisions, and an XBox 360 Elite. See his picture below.

David is a 15-year-old boy battling a brain tumor. He, like Tyler, also loves the Buckeyes. His wish was for a hot tub so he and his family could all enjoy it. See his picture below.

Tyler and David are two great kids that deserved these wishes and MTR is pleased to have been able to make them come true.

If you would like to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, please visit the Chapter’s Web site at www.makeawishohio.org.

Important Oncology Information for Your Overall Health

The majority of the population is made aware of breast, colon, and lung cancer - many people get yearly tests to make sure they do not have these types of cancer. But have you heard of oral, leukemia, or endometrial cancers? These are 3 very common cancers, but the symptoms are typically overlooked because these cancers are not as well known.

The risk of oral cancer is 1 in 98. People between the ages of 55 and 65 are especially vulnerable. 75% of oral cancers are caused by smoking and drinking alcohol. Be aware of any sores, tenderness, pain, etc in your mouth or on your lips. Unfortunately, most people ignore these symptoms as common pains and the cancer goes undetected, making oral cancer much more fatal than it should be.

Leukemia is known as affecting children more than adults, but people between the ages of 55 and 74 are also vulnerable. It is crucial to be aware of the symptoms of leukemia – bleeding gums, bruising easily, flu-like symptoms, fatigue, and joint pain. If any of these symptoms persist for more than two weeks, you should consult your doctor.

The risk of endometrial cancer, also known as uterine cancer, is 1 in 40. This is the fourth most common type of cancer in women – 90% of the cases happen in women over the age of 50. Women who are obese and who have a family history of uterine cancer are extremely susceptible. Luckily, the most common symptom of uterine cancer is unusual bleeding. Most women immediately go to their doctor and the cancer is usually caught in its earliest stages.

It is extremely important to be aware of all types of cancers, especially the ones that are caused by certain behavioral and biological traits. MTR strives to post important oncology information for everyone on this blog, so please keep watching!
