MTR’s new billing medical administrator, Valia Grozeva, was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the second largest city in Bulgaria. Valia arrived with her husband and two daughters in Cleveland, Ohio in 1997. The family moved to Columbus in 2006 to explore more college opportunities for both daughters, and also at the same time, proudly received their US Citizenship. In Valia’s free time, she enjoys exercising outdoors, traveling around the USA and Europe, going to the movies, and watching her favorite basketball team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before becoming a member of MTR, Valia worked as a Billing Specialist for PharMerica Pharmacy and was responsible for billing their long term care facilities’ patients.

MTR would like to welcome Angela Hamilton to the team. Angela has lived in central Ohio her entire life.  Angela’s family is close knit and she has an older brother and two younger sisters.

Angela graduated with honors from Ohio University in June of 2009 with a B.S. in Health Communication. In her free time, Angela enjoys working out, hiking, biking, and spending time with her family and friends.  Angela is a long time Buckeye and Steeler’s fan.

Medical Technology Resources donated various medical supplies, including IV extension sets, syringes, needles, gloves, etc., in order to provide the Haiti victims with much needed medical items. Working in conjunction with the Open Hands Disaster Relief, Amy Sheets from the Vineyard Church of Columbus came in to collect a truckload of the donated items. Featured in the picture, Warehouse Manager Fred Frick assists Amy with the loading of the medical supplies.

Here at MTR, we were deeply affected by the tragedy in Haiti. We believe it is important to always give back, not only to our immediate community, but our surrounding neighbors in other countries as well. We know that every little bit helps and we were glad to be a part in supporting this important cause.

In an earlier blog, we talked about how early detection is the number one way to fight cancer.  An annual report has been released showing evidence of  the importance of early detection.

Researchers now believe that the colorectal cancer death rate will drop over 20% in the next decade. The prediction assumes colon cancer screening and improved chemotherapy treatment will become more commonplace.  It also assumes that cancer causing habits, such as smoking, will be on the decline as well.  Researches believe that this is an optimistic outlook, but it is realistic with all the new advances in medicine.

Cancer is America’s No. 2 killer, behind heart disease, and accounts for nearly a quarter of annual deaths. Colorectal cancer is the third leading cancer killer in the United States. An estimated 50,000 people will die from it this year.

The leading cause of colorectal cancer is obesity.  Diets filled with hyrdogenated oils and animal fats increase the risk of not only colorectal cancer, but all cancers.  Of course, family history and genetics are also a leading cause. Therefore, it is extremely important to live a healthy lifestyle and to always get your yearly screenings, especially if cancer runs within your family.

Another territory manager has been added to the MTR sales team.  His name is Rodney Chakan and his official start date with MTR was October 19^th, 2009.  His official title is the Virginia Territory Manager.  Rodney’s territory covers Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. 

 Before joining MTR, Rodney worked as a Territory Manager for Covidien, so he has extensive experience in the medical sales field.  He possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Duquesne University.

 Rodney recently got married to Marie and actually just returned from his honeymoon in Greece.  Although Rodney lives in Virginia, he is an avid Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers fan.

MTR would like to welcome a new territory manager to the team. Marcia VanAlstyne joins the team as the North Florida Territory Manager. Her territory consists of the major metropolitan areas of Jacksonville, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Tallahassee, and Orlando.

Marcia VanAlstyne has an extensive background in medical and dental sales. She has an Associate’s degree from Systems Technology Institute.

Marcia has two children - a 20 year old son and an 18 year old daughter. In her free time, Marcia loves to spend time with her family and loves to cook for her friends and family.

Medical Technology Resources (MTR) is proudly serving our troops in a small but significant way.   MTR was recently contacted by both a US Army Medical Facility and a US Naval Medical Facility.  MTR was able to expeditiously fulfill their requests for infusion devices in order to care for our service men and women.   The Army and Naval medical facilities were able to locate MTR from an internet search for infusion devices.   A number of US military medical centers find us via our web where we offer an extensive  selection of IV infusion devices and durable medical goods on our product pages.

 We are grateful for the sacrifices of the men and women in uniform around the world to protect our freedom.  The staff of MTR salutes them and their families for their service to our country.

On August 15th, Medical Mutual hosted the 10th Annual Walk for Wishes, a huge event for the Make-A-Wish foundation. MTR participated in the walk as MTR Walk for Thomas. MTR employees, along with family and friends, walked in order to raise a wish for Thomas. One of our employees even brought her baby golden retriever, Kapono, on the walk with her! See picture below. It was a beautiful day and there were thousands of people there all in support for a great cause. The walk was a 5k and Kapono actually made it through 2/3 of the walk - but then he had to be carried the rest of the way! MTR raised over $2500 for Thomas. Thomas is still undecided on his wish. Donations are still being accepted always on the Make-A-Wish website. If you want to donate to Thomas, then you just have to enter in MTR Walk for Thomas on the Ohio link.

Thanks for everyone that came out for the Make-Wish Walk and for everyone that made a donation to grant Thomas’s wish, especially in these tough economic times. We hope that next year will be an even better year!
